Clothing garments are one of the most popular types of item to logo and make into a promotional product. On the surface, you may just be picking a style of apparel that you think looks good or is well-liked, and not think anything more of it. But did you know that each style has its own unique history of how it came to be?

Enter the Henley. It’s a style of collarless t-shirt that features a placket of buttons beneath a round neckline, and here are some quick facts about the history of the garment:

  • Originated as a men’s undershirt in 19th century England
  • First used as men’s rowing team uniforms in Oxfordshire and later adopted by American baseball players
  • Named after the town Henley-on-Thames, home of the Henley Royal Regatta, an annual rowing event that still happens today
  • Originally made of unbleached cotton or gauze, now popular in cotton blends or thermals in a wide range of colors

The Henley has become almost a staple of men’s and women’s wardrobes today, so if you’d like to feature them as a promotional product with your logo screen-printed or embroidery with top quality, Benefit Marketing can help!
